This is somewhat a copy cat of the Jollibee burger steak, a savory and moist beef burgers smothered with a rich and tasty mushroom gravy sauce paired with steaming rice or mashed potatoes. Burger steak is actually a Pinoy version of Salisbury steak and one of the cheapest dish on the Jollibee’s menu and it could be cheaper if you will make your own burger steak with mushroom gravy.

The combination of ground pork and ground beef is what makes this burger steak so delicious. Although you can make burger patties out of pure ground beef or ground pork, combining them will make the patties more savory because the pork fat will give more flavor to the ground beef.

NOTES ON THE INGREDIENTS:

Beef Patty

The beef patty used in this burger steak is made from ground beef that is seasoned with salt and pepper. The beef is then shaped into a patty that is about 1/2 inch thick and 4 inches in diameter. The patty is cooked until it is browned on the outside and juicy on the inside.

Mushroom Gravy

Mushroom gravy is a rich and creamy sauce made from beef broth, mushrooms, butter, and flour. The beef broth is thickened with a roux made from butter and flour. The mushrooms are sautéed in butter until they are browned and tender. The mushrooms are then added to the gravy and stirred until the gravy is thick and creamy.

Bread Crumbs

Bread crumbs are used in the beef patty to help bind the meat together and to give it a slightly crispy texture when it is cooked. The bread crumbs are made from stale bread that is ground up into small pieces.

Worcestershire Sauce

Worcestershire sauce is a savory condiment made from vinegar, molasses, anchovies, and other ingredients. It adds a rich and complex flavor to the beef patty.

Onion and Garlic

Finely minced onion and garlic are added to the beef patty to give it a sweet and savory flavor. The onion and garlic are sautéed until they are softened before being mixed into the beef patty.

Milk and Egg

Milk and egg are added to the beef patty to help keep it moist and tender. The milk is absorbed by the bread crumbs, which helps to keep the patty from drying out during cooking.

Sugar

A small amount of sugar is added to the beef patty to help balance the flavors and to add a touch of sweetness.
